The ABCs of Water Safety: A Simple Guide for Parents
As a swim instructor, I understand how challenging it can be to ensure your kids' safety in and around water. That's why I want to share the ABCs of water safety—Adult Supervision, Barriers, and Classes—with you. By following these simple steps, you can create a fun and secure environment for your family's swimming adventures.
A - Adult Supervision:
Always have an adult actively watching children in the water.
Avoid distractions, such as mobile phones or conversations, while supervising.
Designate a "Water Watcher" to take responsibility for monitoring the children.
B - Barriers:
Install fences or barriers around pools to prevent unsupervised access.
Ensure gates are self-closing and self-latching, and out of reach for children.
Use alarms on doors or windows that lead to the pool area.
C - Classes:
Enroll your child in swimming lessons taught by certified instructors.
Consider enrolling yourself in adult swimming classes if you're not a strong swimmer.
Learn CPR and first aid to be prepared for emergencies.
By following the ABCs of water safety, you can protect your child from the risks associated with water activities. By being proactive in implementing these safety measures, you'll create a safer and more enjoyable environment for your family.
